Marching Falcon Band Applauds Alumnus Malik Giles-Gregg for Achievements in Education and Leadership

Darlington, SC — The Darlington High School Marching Falcon Band proudly honors Malik Giles-Gregg, a standout alumnus from the Class of 2018, whose journey has been marked by musical excellence, academic achievement, and a rising career in education.

Malik began his musical journey at Darlington High School as a percussionist but soon found his true voice on the tuba, ultimately serving as Tuba Section Leader under the direction of Dr. Brendan L. Johnson, Director of Bands. He was a dedicated member of the marching band and concert band, helping lead the program to its first-ever superior ratings in both concert and marching band.

In the fall of 2018, Malik continued his passion for music and learning at Bethune-Cookman University, where he earned both band and academic scholarships and became a proud member of the Marching Wildcats. He graduated from BCU in 2023 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Psychology and went on to earn a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Claflin University.

Malik spent two years as an educator at Sneed Middle School, where he brought the same leadership, heart, and excellence that marked his time as a student. He now plans to further his education with the goal of becoming a school district superintendent, determined to make a lasting impact in the field of education.

“Malik is the kind of leader who understands the power of growth, grit, and giving back,” said Dr. Brendan L. Johnson. “From the band room to the classroom, he’s led with heart and integrity. His journey is one that will inspire students and educators for generations to come.”

The Darlington High School Marching Falcon Band salutes Malik Giles-Gregg for his continued pursuit of excellence and his commitment to shaping the future of education.
